Do I Need Rehab?

Has your drug use alcohol use or gambling become the main focus of your life?

There are always tell- tale signs that your addiction has got to a point that you need help and can no longer control the problem by yourself. When you cannot stop or stay stopped even though you want to, your life is being deeply affected and you are in a state of despair and hopelessness, rehab can and will help you.

Where family, loved ones, social activities and work (to name a few) are no longer the main priority in your day and the substance is consuming your thoughts throughout the day, finding that you are spending an increasing amount of time, effort and resources to acquire your drug of choice. Have you tried to (unsuccessfully) quit on your own? If your past points to relapses or trying to quit with low levels of care; rehab can provide the safety, structure, medical attention, therapy and stability needed to provide you with a firm foundation to continue recovery in your life, out in the world.

Not able to cope with daily life?

Has life become completely unmanageable to the point where you are not able to cope with life, take part in ‘normal’ daily living and your relationships are deteriorating? Are your family and friends desperate for you to get well and seek help but don’t know what to do and are you sick and tired of being sick and tired? Rehab also allows your loved ones to have some peace of mind, able to get on with their lives knowing that you are in a safe and secure environment, receiving the help and support you need.

Going into Rehab

Are the consequences starting to mount up, physically and mentally? Mentally this can manifest as increased anxiety and agitation, depression and even symptoms of psychosis. A good thing about going into a rehab is that your physical and mental health will be closely monitored and you will receive safe treatment (including a detox) from the substance you are addicted to under the careful supervision of medical professionals as you move through the process of recovery. This allows you to focus on getting and staying clean and sober.  You will also look more deeply into the illness and gain more insight into why you drink or drug and find the solutions you need to live a sober/clean life. Many treatment centres use a 12- step program to treat the illness and allow you to address and resolve difficult and challenging issues in your life through group therapy and 1-1 counselling, preparing you to carry on with your recovery when you leave.

My experience

I had tried counselling, had been to the GP, attended an alcohol centre that focused on controlling the amount I drank, I’d tried to change the quantity I took, countless times had tried to quit and  but reached the end of the road, nothing worked but then I found rehab, which changed my life and put me on the path to recovery which I hadn’t been able to do alone. For the first time I was with a group of people who had exactly the same problem and felt just like I did – I could relate, identify and no longer felt alone in the world trying to battle an illness that was only progressively getting worse in spite of my attempts to stop and the separate pleas from loved ones. I felt like I’d hit a dead end and could see no way out until I came to rehab and was offered a solution and a place to recover safely away from the temptations and distractions of life.

Today, my life is completely different and I will be eternally grateful for the time I spent in Rehab.
