Can a private rehab clinic help me?

Are you looking for a private rehab clinic? Why do you need one and is it for you or for someone you care about who is drinking too much or using drugs?

The fact that you have reached the point of looking online for information about private rehab clinics almost certainly means that the person you are looking for (you?) has a problem – we tend not to go to the effort of looking until we are seriously worried. If the issue has got to this point it will not go away.

Addiction may get worse if not treated

Addiction is a progressive illness and we need help in order to address it. Burying our heads in the sand in the hope it will magically get better will not work. The answer is to stop drinking or using the addictive substance that causes the problem. However for most of us, that is not easy. If we do not address the reasons why we drink or use the substance then the chances are that we will inevitably return to the ‘comfort’ or ‘escapism’ of drinking and using.

Need something a bit more intensive?

Have you tried everything else? Counselling can help – but this is usually once a week for an hour and the rest of the time (167 hours) we are left feeling the same with the same temptation to drink or use. So weekly counselling for the entrenched alcoholic or addict rarely works. Going to AA or its equivalent for addicts (Narcotics Anonymous – NA) can be really helpful and is sufficient for some people to deal with the problem. It is free too – a self help group. However, many of us find that while AA and NA are helpful we still cannot actually stop drinking or using as the mental obsession and physical need remains.

A private rehab clinic may be your best option

Many people are surprised to find that there is little help available on the NHS. You may be able to get detox medication for a home detox but not all GPs offer this and to get a detox in hospital is extremely unusual – unless you are very seriously ill. So if you need a detox and / or help with stopping completely, the best option is to go to a private rehab clinic.

Some people want to go to a private alcohol rehab clinic or private drug rehab clinic because it is just that – private – and does not need to be put on your medical notes. Your GP does not need to know if you have a detox or that you have an addiction problem (unless you choose to inform them) – in fact no one needs to know who you do not choose to tell.

Do not expect a spa!

Although ‘private rehab’ can in some ways sound quite exclusive, do not expect it to be like a spa! The best rehabs will not be places where you are pampered and indulged but places where the staff help you to address your addiction and challenges, and where you learn how it is possible to live everyday life without using and drinking. They are not retreats – but places to get well and live life on life’s terms. So self care and caring for your living environment may well be part of the deal.

A private rehab clinic programme may be just what you need!

If you go to private rehab and want to get well, it can be a life changing experience. It may even save your life. So although many people are shocked by the cost involved, it is value for money in terms of what it can achieve – and months or years of problems can be addressed in the space of a few short weeks. And a new happier and fulfilling life is there for the taking.
