Alcohol – Why Drinking is Foolish

Alcohol and Our Bodies

Our bodies are amazing machines. If you think about the complexity of the human body and what it achieves it is truly awe inspiring. From the moment we are born our heart beats even when we are asleep. Oxygen is pumped around us until the moment we die. Our bodies are made up of trillions of cells, all with their own purpose and all working in cohesion with the others to fulfil a function.

Whether you believe we were created by God in a day or by a process of evolution over millions of years. The result is something that could not be reproduced by any human being. Even though human beings have achieved incredible things such as walking on the moon and creating a world wide web of communication.

So we all have this most amazing body and a unique individual mind. There is no exact duplicate of any one of us on the planet. Yet from the moment we are born, as soon as we become old enough to observe others around us, we see people using alcohol as if it is necessary to make their lives complete. It is like we have to have it in order to relax, to enjoy ourselves and it becomes necessary to help us live our lives.

Alcohol is Poisoning into Our Bodies

However, we truly do not need it in order to have a good and fulfilled happy life. Indeed, it is likely to produce exactly the opposite effect. By drinking alcohol we are putting  a poison into our body and as time goes by that poison will begin to affect our organs, our immune system, our digestion and the functioning of our brain. And it will not make our lives more complete and enjoyable. Indeed, while it might seem to add a fun dimension at times, it often causes us to regret what we have said or done. If we look at it in that light why on earth do we put it into our amazing bodies to begin the process of destruction?

Self-Destruction

We even ignore the warning signs that the process of destruction has begun. A night of heavy drinking makes us feel drained and ill. So do we stop the heavy drinking? We might vow to but we know that we will do it again. Even those people who are told that they have done physical damage due to their drinking carry on. That is like the warning light coming on telling you you are getting short of fuel. Thinking you can carry on driving and will not eventually run out. In addition, alcohol dulls our senses. It is like putting on a dark pair of glasses at night, or putting earplugs in when we need to listen. Why would anyone want to do that?

The point is that we do not need alcohol to live a full and complete life. It damages the unique machine that is the human being. And without it we can wake up every day energised and happy.

The madness is that in 2013, when all this is so obvious, that alcoholism is a growing problem affecting many families.
