Alcohol Rehabilitation

Alcohol addiction treatment at the Haynes Clinic is a residential service. This means that people are required to live in while on the alcohol rehabilitation programme. This not only means that clients can be safely administered their detox medication but also that they get the change of environment and mental space they need to begin their recovery.

Why people need alcohol addiction treatment

Most people with alcohol addiction will be physically dependent on alcohol (getting withdrawal symptoms when they stop drinking). As well as psychologically dependent (thinking about alcohol all the time which, even if they stop drinking, means they do not stay stopped). So most people with alcoholism need a detox as well as alcohol addiction treatment (counselling) to get well. The objective of alcohol addiction treatment is, once an individual has completed the programme, they stay sober with no further relapse.

People who drink excessively and addictively, who suffer from alcoholism, will be risking physical health problems. These problems include their liver, pancreas, brain and heart, and from cancer. They will also experience metal health problems – such as from stress, anxiety and depression. Some people feel suicidal and act on this.

Getting someone to come to an alcohol reab clinic

Many people will deny they need to come to an alcohol rehab clinic. Often they do not see the seriousness of their alcoholism and how it affects not just them but the people who love them. Also they will not want to think about giving up drinking for ever. They will prefer to think they can drink normally in the future. They will be fearful both of not being able to have access to alcohol (which is so important to them) and what they might have to face in alcohol rehabilitation.

Their tolerance for alcohol will be very high – but the physical and mental damage they are doing to themselves – and the stress they are causing – will be extreme. They are risking everything – their physical and mental health, accidental injury, their work and family life. And so it is likely to go on until they accept alcohol addiction treatment. Call us for advice if you need help to persuade someone to go to an alcohol rehab clinic.

Free alcohol addiction assessment

You can book a free alcohol addiction consultation – which can be more like an informal talk over the phone or a more formal assessment visit to the clinic – whichever style best suits the person in need of help.

Alcohol Detox

If someone who is drinking a lot regularly suddenly stops, the body and mind can go into a form of shock. This can result in them having shakes, sweats and even an alcoholic fit. Some people start to hallucinate.

A GP may advise to cut down the alcohol intake. For an alcoholic this is very hard if not impossible. That is why a supervised alcohol detoxification is necessary to stop drinking safely and comfortably. Treatment includes an initial assessment with our psychiatrist. Usually medication will be prescribed and the dose is reduced over a period of time (usually 8 – 10 days) till there is no further need of detox medication and the body is free of alcohol.

However, without treatment for the mental obsession with alcohol, it is likely that at some point the individual will start to drink again….

Skilled alcohol addiction treatment specialists

Treatment at the Haynes Clinic starts straight away while detox. is taking place. There is no advantage to sitting around while detoxing – it is better to start the alcohol addiction treatment so best use is made of time in alcohol addiction treatment. In addition, doing nothing increases feelings of  depression and anxiety. Taking part in therapy is both beneficial and a distraction.

Treatment for Alcohol Addiction at the Haynes Clinic covers:

  • Group therapy – (including psychotherapy) and taking the individual through the 12 step programme.
  • 12 Step Program – We will provide an introduction to the 12 Step Program and teach you the tools to live life clean when you leave treatment.
  • Workshops – on subjects such as relapse prevention, anger management, resentment, cross addiction, loss and change (depending on the needs of the individual) .
  • One-to-One sessions – ensuring that personal issues are dealt with in treatment or, if specialist help is needed, onward referral can be made. In addiction weekly personalised goals will be set reflecting individual circumstances.
  • Massage, Meditation and Yoga – a private therapist attends once a week providing a yoga and meditation session and, if required, massage (the latter is subject to additional cost).
  • Acupuncture – if it helps with detox / anxiety.

Alcohol Addiction Aftercare

An important part of alcohol addiction treatment is keeping the abstinence going – and living life to its full potential. The Haynes Clinic offers online aftercare via Zoom plus face to face aftercare for a whole day each week as part of the inclusive alcohol rehabilitation programme. There is no additional cost for this.

We also strongly advise attendance at 12 Step Fellowship meetings (AA, NA, CA etc) which are also free of charge. There will be an introduction to these during treatment.
